The TP-LINK USA CORPORATION SM311LM is a 1 Gigabit SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) fiber optic transceiver module designed for use in managed switches, media converters, and network devices that support standard SFP slots. Operating over multimode fiber with a dual-fiber LC/UPC connector interface, it supports link distances up to 550 meters, making it well suited for intra-building and campus-level fiber runs. The SM311LM is a compact, hot-swappable module that network technicians and low-voltage installers drop into compatible SFP-equipped equipment to extend or convert Gigabit Ethernet connections over fiber infrastructure.
This transceiver is intended for structured cabling environments, data centers, commercial buildings, and any installation where Gigabit Ethernet must be carried over existing multimode fiber plant. The LC/UPC duplex interface is the standard termination found on most modern multimode fiber patch panels and equipment ports. At a 550-meter reach, the SM311LM covers the typical maximum horizontal and backbone distances found in OM2 and OM3 multimode fiber deployments inside a single facility.
Designed as an OEM-style SFP transceiver for use in network switches, routers, and media converters equipped with standard SFP slots accepting 1000BASE-SX or multimode fiber modules.
SFP transceivers are installed by low-voltage network technicians and structured cabling professionals. Power down or disable the target SFP port before insertion where the equipment requires it, following the host device manufacturer guidelines. Clean fiber end faces with an appropriate fiber optic cleaner before mating the LC connectors to prevent signal loss. Installations should comply with TIA-568 structured cabling standards for fiber plant design and termination practices.
