The TOOL-FLO 9HNL46 is a lock pin designed to secure inserts in indexable turning and threading toolholders. It features a 3/32 inch hex socket drive and a 1/4-28 thread, with an overall length of 0.68 inches. This small but critical hardware component maintains positive insert retention during cutting operations, preventing insert movement or ejection under load. It is the type of replacement consumable that machinists and toolroom technicians keep on hand to restore toolholders to proper working condition quickly. Industry standard number NL46 may aid cross-referencing with other sources.
The 9HNL46 lock pin is suited for use in indexable turning and threading applications in both production machining and job-shop environments. It is compatible with CL 12, CL 20, CL 30, CL 9, and TC-190 clamp styles, as well as standard indexable inserts used in those clamp systems. Machinists servicing TOOL-FLO toolholders that use the NL46-style lock pin will find this a direct OEM-spec replacement.

Lock pin replacement is typically performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Before removing or replacing the lock pin, ensure the toolholder is removed from the machine and all motion has stopped. Use a 3/32 inch hex key to remove and reinstall the pin. Do not overtighten; secure the pin snugly to the manufacturer recommendation without applying excessive torque that could damage the thread in the toolholder body.
