The TOOL-FLO 9BCD505O3R is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features a diamond insert shape (CDCD style, size code 505) with a TiN coating applied via PVD process, delivering improved wear resistance and surface finish on a range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 0.156 inches in length and width, 0.04 inches thick, with a 0.007-inch corner radius and a 15-degree relief angle. It is screw-held and belongs to the Bantam series. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists install this insert in compatible boring bars and toolholders.
This insert is suited for machining non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, alloy steels, and superalloys as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron listed as a secondary application. The micrograin carbide substrate and GP22R manufacturer grade make it appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge sharpness and dimensional accuracy are critical. Typical use is in production environments requiring consistent bore geometry and tight tolerances.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for CDCD-505 toolholders and boring bar systems that accept screw-held diamond-style inserts of this size class. Compatible boring bar systems should be verified against the CDCD-505 insert style and size code 505 specifications before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw - do not overtighten, as micrograin carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture from excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before fitting a new insert. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer guidelines during any tooling changeout.
