The TOOL-FLO 85518 is an LS-series shim seat designed for indexable toolholders used in grooving and threading operations. It features a 5/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.187-inch thickness, providing a stable, repeatable seating surface for trigon-profile inserts. The negative rake geometry supports the cutting forces typical of these operations. Licensed HVAC techs and machinists - specifically CNC lathe and turning center operators - rely on precision shim seats like this one to maintain insert positioning and protect toolholder pockets from wear and damage over repeated insert changes.
This shim seat is intended for use in metalworking turning applications involving grooving and threading passes. It is compatible with both left-hand and right-hand cutting directions, making it suitable for a range of turning setups on manual lathes or CNC turning centers. The LS series designation corresponds to a specific family of toolholders commonly found in production and job-shop environments. Machinists and toolroom personnel who service or set up indexable tooling will install this part as part of routine insert change and holder maintenance procedures.
Compatible with the following toolholders: LNFL 200-53, LNFL 50M-53, LNFR 200-53, LNFR 50M-53, MTVNL-165, MTVNL-2525M5, MTVNR-165, MTVNR-205, MTVNR-2054, MTVNR-2525M5, MTVNR-3232M5, and MTVNR-3232M54. Toolholder style compatibility includes H-LNFR/L, LNFR/L, and MTVNR/L. Compatible insert shape is trigon. Manufacturers catalog number LS53.
Shim seats are installed by toolroom technicians or machinists during indexable insert changes or toolholder refurbishment. Power down and lock out the machine before accessing any toolholder pocket. Ensure the shim seat pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the shim. Do not reuse a shim seat that shows signs of cracking, deformation, or uneven wear, as a compromised shim will affect insert seating accuracy and can damage the toolholder pocket.
