The TOOL-FLO 79250BN4E is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision vee-bottom grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to GP50E grade carbide and finished with a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and edge sharpness in demanding cutting applications. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for straight grooving passes without directional bias. With a corner radius of 0.0150 inches and an insert style designation of VDB, it is engineered for tight-tolerance groove profiles. Machinists and toolroom technicians working on production or job-shop turning equipment install this insert using a clamp-style holder.
This insert is intended for use on stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, with non-ferrous metals as a secondary application. The Vee Bottom series geometry is suited to applications requiring a defined groove profile at the base of the cut. It is a single-use, non-multi-use insert that is indexed or replaced when cutting edges are worn. Typical install environments include manual and CNC turning operations in industrial machining shops, maintenance facilities, and contract manufacturing.
Designed for use in clamp-style VDB grooving toolholders compatible with the Vee Bottom insert series. ISO code VDB250A015 and insert size code VDB250B015 apply for cross-referencing to compatible holder systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and in a safe, locked-out state before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the clamp pocket and verify the clamp screw torque is consistent with the toolholder manufacturer's guidelines. Inspect the pocket and clamp for chips or debris before seating the new insert to avoid micro-fracture at the cutting edge. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer recommendations for insert changeout intervals.
