The TOOL-FLO 79250BJ5A is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the VDB250 form factor with a GP3A manufacturer grade micrograin carbide substrate, this insert features a PVD-applied TiN coating that extends tool life in ferrous and general-purpose turning applications. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for straight-in plunge grooving. Cutting width is 0.25 inches (6.35 mm), with an overall length of 1.125 inches and a cutting height of 0.337 inches. It is clamped into compatible VDB-series toolholders and is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals.
This insert is used in production and job-shop machining environments where consistent groove geometry is required. The Vee Bottom series geometry is engineered for stable chip control during plunge grooving cycles. The small corner radius of 0.015 inches suits applications where sharp, defined groove shoulders are needed. Typical use cases include external grooving, undercut operations, and recessing on turned components in both manual and CNC setups. This insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.
Designed for use with VDB-series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept the 250 insert size. Manufacturers catalog reference number VDB 250 B015 may be used to cross-reference compatible holder systems.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's recommended procedure. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before replacing or indexing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the cutting parameters published for the GP3A grade and TiN coating on the workpiece material being machined.
