The TOOL-FLO 593031RN4C is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision turning and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the FLR3031 insert style in the Flo-Lock series, it features a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating and carries a GP50 manufacturer grade. The insert delivers a cutting width of 1.57 mm (0.0618 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 3.18 mm (0.1252 inches), making it suitable for narrow, accurate grooving passes. This is a right-hand insert with a positive rake angle of 55 degrees and a full radius profile. Machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments install this insert into compatible Flo-Lock toolholders.
This insert is intended for grooving and parting applications in turning operations, primarily on steel workpieces. Its solid carbide substrate and PVD TiN finish support consistent tool life in both light and moderate production environments. The 3031 insert size and FLR style make it a standard fit within the Flo-Lock insert system. A gage diameter of 0.375 inches (3/8 inch) and a cutting height of 0.3440 inches provide reliable seating and repeatable positioning in the toolholder. The positive rake geometry helps reduce cutting forces during shallow grooving passes.
Designed for use in Flo-Lock series grooving toolholders that accept the FLR3031 insert style. ISO code FLR-3031R identifies the correct toolholder seat. Verify toolholder specification against insert size 3031 and gage diameter 0.375 inches before installation.
This insert is installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper clamping force - do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure accurate positioning and prevent premature edge failure.
