The TOOL-FLO 593031LJ5R is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Flo-Lock series, designed for precision grooving and cutoff operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a GP3 manufacturer grade with a TiN coating applied via PVD process, delivering a hard, wear-resistant surface suited for consistent performance on ferrous and stainless steel workpieces. Cutting width is 1.57 mm (0.0618 inches) with a maximum depth of cut of 3.18 mm (0.1252 inches). A full radius geometry and positive rake angle of 55 degrees reduce cutting forces and improve chip evacuation in tight-tolerance grooving applications.
This insert is intended for left-hand orientation and fits Flo-Lock series toolholders. It is well suited for production turning environments where grooving stainless steel or similar difficult-to-machine materials demands consistent edge geometry and coating integrity. Typical users include CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working on precision turned components in aerospace, medical, and general industrial applications. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the fine grain structure needed for sharp, repeatable edges at the insert size code 3031.
Designed for use in Flo-Lock series grooving toolholders accepting insert style FLR at size code 3031, with a gage diameter of 3/8 inch (0.3750 inches). Verify holder hand orientation and insert pocket dimensions before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all stored energy is released before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris prior to seating the new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification for this insert grade and coating.
