The TOOL-FLO 592031LN4C is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and cutoff operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the FLR2031 geometry in the Flo-Lock series, it features a 1.57 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm. The insert carries a GP50 manufacturer grade with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) PVD coating for improved wear resistance. The left-hand orientation, positive rake angle of 55 degrees, and full-radius corner geometry make this insert well suited for finishing passes and tight-tolerance grooving work. Machinists and CNC tool-setters working in production turning environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is intended for grooving applications in steel and secondary workpiece materials on production turning equipment. The 3/16 inch gage diameter, 0.1500 inch overall width, and lead angle of 3 degrees position it for shallow-to-medium-depth grooving within the 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm maximum depth of cut range. The Flo-Lock series is designed for secure insert seating in compatible toolholders, reducing chatter and maintaining dimensional consistency across high-volume runs. It is appropriate for both light finishing and general-purpose grooving operations on steel workpieces.
Designed for use with Flo-Lock series compatible toolholders accepting the FLR-2031L insert style. The ISO code is FLR-2031L. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation to confirm fitment.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tool-setter with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten or substitute clamping hardware. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination can cause improper seating and premature edge failure. Replace the insert at the first sign of chipping, edge wear, or dimensional deviation in the finished groove.
