The TOOL-FLO 574050RJ5A is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GP3 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiN coating over a micrograin carbide substrate, delivering a hard, wear-resistant cutting edge. The insert is right-hand oriented, with a 0.250-inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.250 inches. Positive rake geometry at 55 degrees reduces cutting forces and improves chip flow. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert into compatible Flo-Lock toolholders as a direct drop-in replacement during scheduled insert changes or when edge wear is detected.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting applications in steel workpieces on production turning equipment. The FLG4250 insert style fits within the Flo-Lock series tooling system. It is appropriate for both light-duty and moderate-production turning setups where consistent groove width of 0.250 inches is required. The maximum depth of cut range spans 0.200 to 0.300 inches, making it practical for a variety of groove depth requirements in steel and secondary compatible materials. The 3/8-inch gage diameter and 0.3750-inch gage diameter spec confirm proper seating in the designated pocket.
Designed for use with TOOL-FLO Flo-Lock series toolholders accepting the FLG insert style, insert size 4250, ISO code FLG-4250R. Primary workpiece material is steel.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret locked out before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate Flo-Lock insert clamp and torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer's documentation - do not use makeshift tools that can damage the insert pocket. Inspect the pocket and clamping wedge for chips or damage before seating a new insert.
