The TOOL-FLO 573494RJ5R is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision turning and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GP3 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiN coating over a micrograin carbide substrate, delivering consistent edge integrity at the cutting zone. The insert is right-hand orientation, with a cutting width of 0.0941 inches (2.39 mm) and a maximum depth of cut of 0.1799 inches (4.57 mm). A positive rake angle of 55 degrees reduces cutting forces and promotes clean chip evacuation. This insert belongs to the Flo-Lock series and is intended for installation by machinists and toolroom technicians working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting applications on steel workpieces in both light and medium-duty cutting scenarios. The 3/8-inch (0.3750 inches) gage diameter and an overall width of 0.1950 inches position it for tight-tolerance groove profiles where depth control is critical. The maximum depth of cut range of 0.1500 to 0.2000 inches (4.00 to 5.00 mm) makes it a practical choice for recessing, undercutting, and snap-ring groove operations on turned components.
Designed for use in TOOL-FLO Flo-Lock series toolholders accepting the FLGP insert style, size 3094. ISO designation FLGP-3094R. Verify toolholder seat geometry and insert pocket dimensions before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and all axes locked out per standard lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer; do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert. Confirm depth-of-cut and feed-rate parameters are within the recommended range for the GP3 grade before beginning the cut.
