The TOOL-FLO 563889RJ5R is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision turning and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the FLG insert style in size code 3189, it carries a GP3 manufacturer grade with a micrograin carbide substrate and a PVD-applied Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating. The right-hand configuration delivers a 4.80 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 4.57 mm. A positive rake angle of 55 degrees promotes clean chip flow and reduces cutting forces during grooving passes on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. Machining professionals and tool crib managers sourcing indexed grooving tooling will recognize this as a production-grade insert.
This insert is intended for grooving, parting, and profiling applications on turning equipment where precise groove geometry and controlled chip evacuation are required. The Flo-Lock series is engineered for secure insert seating in compatible Flo-Lock toolholders, making it well suited for high-volume production environments where repeat positioning accuracy matters. The 3/8 inch gage diameter and overall width of 0.1950 inches place this insert in a commonly used size range for medium-duty turning work. It is a single-use, right-hand insert and is not configured as a multi-use tool.
Designed for use with compatible Flo-Lock series toolholders accepting the FLG insert style in size 3189. ISO code FLG-3189R identifies the correct mating holder. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping style before ordering.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and procedure guidelines. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket for debris, damage, or wear before seating a new insert, as a contaminated pocket will affect runout and edge life. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer recommendations for insert changes on CNC turning equipment.
