The TOOL-FLO 563878LN4C is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This left-hand insert carries a GP50 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied TiN coating for improved wear resistance and extended tool life. With a cutting width of 0.178 inches (4.52 mm) and a maximum depth of cut of 0.180 inches (4.57 mm), it is sized for controlled, repeatable grooving in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It belongs to the Flo-Lock series and is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for grooving applications on lathes where left-hand orientation is required, including O-ring groove cutting, snap-ring groove work, and part-off operations. The FLG insert style fits Flo-Lock compatible toolholders designed for the 3/8-inch gage diameter and 3178 insert size designation. It is appropriate for both light and moderate-duty cuts within its rated depth range of 0.150 to 0.200 inches (4.00 to 5.00 mm), making it a practical choice for shops running medium to fine finishing passes on turned components.
Designed for use with Flo-Lock series toolholders accepting the FLG insert style in the 3178 insert size with a 3/8-inch gage diameter. Verify toolholder hand and pocket geometry before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and locked-out condition per applicable machine guarding and lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for damage or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for this insert size.
