The TOOL-FLO 563856LAC3R is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision turning and grooving operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. This left-hand insert carries the AC3 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, delivering heat and wear resistance suited for demanding cutting cycles. The Flo-Lock series clamping design secures the insert firmly in the toolholder during interrupted and continuous cuts. With a cutting width of 0.156 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.18 inches, this double-end insert is well matched for groove profiling where tight dimensional control is required. Machinists and toolroom technicians specify this insert for finishing and semi-finishing passes on difficult workpiece materials.
This insert is intended for grooving and turning applications on cast iron, stainless steel, and non-ferrous metals. The neutral rake angle and 0.005 to 0.010 inch corner radius range make it a practical choice for general-purpose groove geometry where a sharp, controlled edge is needed. It fits into Flo-Lock series toolholders that accept FLG-style inserts with a 0.375-inch gage diameter. Typical use is on production lathes in job shops, aerospace, and general machining environments where material variety and dimensional accuracy are both priorities.
Designed for use with Flo-Lock series toolholders accepting FLG-style inserts with an ISO code of FLG3156L and a 0.375-inch gage diameter. Compatible with cuts into cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and stainless steel workpieces. Material grades C2 and C3 apply.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered off and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct Flo-Lock clamp and torque the clamp screw with the toolholder manufacturer-specified driver - do not over-torque or substitute fasteners. Verify seating of the insert in the pocket before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert edge and corner radius condition at regular intervals to maintain dimensional tolerance on the workpiece.
