The TOOL-FLO 563631PLAC3R is a left-hand carbide grooving insert designed for precision groove cutting in metalworking applications. It carries an AC3 manufacturer grade and features an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, which improves heat resistance and extends tool life in demanding cuts. The insert belongs to the Flo-Lock series and uses an FLG insert style with a 3031CB size code. Cutting width is 0.031 inches, cutting height is 0.344 inches, and insert thickness is 0.195 inches. A CB chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during grooving operations. This insert is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for grooving operations on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and stainless steel. The neutral rake geometry and CB chip breaker make it a practical choice for both internal and external groove profiles where chip control is critical. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.075 inches, with a corner radius range of 0.002 to 0.005 inches, making it appropriate for fine-tolerance groove profiles in production turning environments. It is a single-use, non-multi-use insert intended as a direct replacement within Flo-Lock compatible toolholders.
Designed for use with Flo-Lock series toolholders that accept FLG-style left-hand grooving inserts with a 3031 insert size. ISO code FLG3031L-CB and manufacturer catalog number FLG-3031L-CB apply to this insert for cross-reference purposes.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified for the Flo-Lock toolholder clamping screw and ensure the insert seats fully and evenly in the pocket before resuming operation. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris prior to installation, as contamination can cause poor seating and premature insert failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for clamping torque and insert indexing procedures.
