The TOOL-FLO 502B4800AC22A is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal right-hand thread cutting applications. It carries an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating for heat resistance and extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert covers a thread pitch range of 8-48 TPI and conforms to the 60-degree V thread standard, making it a versatile option for shops running mixed threading work. Toolroom technicians and CNC machinists working on lathes or turning centers will recognize this as a drop-in insert for compatible laydown-style threading toolholders.
This insert is suited for internal threading operations on materials spanning ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, stainless steels, high-temperature alloys, and cast materials, consistent with its universal primary workpiece material rating. The 16IRB insert style and 3/8-inch inscribed circle size fit standard laydown threading toolholder pockets. Its single-tooth-per-side geometry and chipbreaker (CB) designation make it appropriate for precision threading passes where chip control matters. Typical environments include job shops, production machining cells, and maintenance facilities handling a wide variety of materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement laydown threading insert for 16IRB-style internal threading toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and clamping style before ordering.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not estimate clamping torque by feel. Inspect the toolholder pocket for debris or wear before seating the new insert to ensure proper seating and thread form accuracy.
