The TOOL-FLO 16518FAC50D is a solid carbide, on-edge threading insert designed for API Buttress thread forms in both external and internal threading applications. It features a neutral cutting direction and neutral rake geometry, making it well-suited for stable, consistent thread production. The insert measures 0.625 inches inscribed circle (IC) and 0.252 inches in thickness, with an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process for improved wear resistance and tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. External thread capability spans 4 to 20 TPI, while internal threading is rated at 5 TPI. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in oil and gas, pipe manufacturing, and industrial machining environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is engineered for threading operations on cast iron and steel workpieces, covering the primary workpiece material codes K and P. It is suited for use in CNC lathes and turning centers where API Buttress thread profiles are required, particularly in oilfield tubular goods and pipe coupling applications. The TNMA insert style and size code 54 designation match standard toolholder pockets designed for on-edge insert geometry, making it a direct fit for compatible tooling systems already in use for API-standard threading work.
Designed as an OEM-style on-edge threading insert for use in standard TNMA size 54 toolholders configured for API Buttress thread profiles on cast iron and steel workpieces.
This insert is installed and indexed by licensed machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench or insert-clamping tool specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, and verify thread form alignment with a thread gauge after the first test pass.
