The TOOL-FLO 09474AC50F is a solid carbide laydown threading insert engineered for external API Rotary Shoulder Connections threading applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and finished with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form and wear resistance in demanding production environments. It cuts at 4 threads per inch (TPI) with a 60-degree included angle and features a 5/8 inch (0.6250 inch) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.189 inches. The L53 insert style and AC50F manufacturer grade make it a direct-specification choice for machinists and CNC operators working on oilfield and rotary shoulder connection components.
This insert is designed for external threading of API Rotary Shoulder Connections, the standardized tapered thread profiles used on drill collars, subs, and related downhole tubular components. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron and steel, covering a broad range of ferrous materials encountered in oilfield and heavy industrial machining. It fits L53-series laydown insert toolholders and is suited to CNC lathes and turning centers equipped for single-point threading passes at coarse TPI rates.
Designed for use in L53-series laydown threading toolholders. Compatible with external API Rotary Shoulder Connections threading applications on cast iron and steel workpieces. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping configuration before installation.
Threading inserts of this type are installed and serviced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not over-tighten the clamping screw. Confirm insert seating and runout before initiating threading passes, and inspect the cutting edge after each production run for wear or chipping.
