The TITAN USA TT90697 is a straight flute hand tap designed for cutting 1-1/2-12 UNF right-hand internal threads in a range of materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent thread quality without surface treatment that could affect dimensional tolerances. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads — allows it to start easily in through-holes and most blind-hole applications. With 6 flutes and an H4 thread limit, this tap holds tight dimensional consistency, making it well suited for precision work in industrial and maintenance machining environments. Machinists and toolroom professionals are the primary users.
This tap is intended for threading 1-1/2-12 UNF holes in metalworking applications, including general machine shop work, repair, and toolroom use. The plug chamfer style makes it appropriate as either a standalone tap for through-holes or the second tap in a three-tap sequence for blind holes. The 6-flute configuration provides additional cutting edges compared to 4-flute designs, distributing cutting load and supporting cleaner thread form in moderate-to-hard ferrous materials. It is used in both manual tapping and low-speed machine tapping setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard toolroom tap for manual and machine tapping operations requiring a 1-1/2-12 UNF thread form, Class of Fit 2B or 3B.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists using a standard tap wrench or tapping attachment on a drill press or milling machine. Always secure the workpiece firmly and align the tap perpendicular to the hole before starting. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and reverse the tap periodically to break chips during manual operation. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged tap in a large-diameter thread can be costly to extract.
