The TITAN USA TT90505 is a straight flute hand tap designed to cut 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in through-holes and open-work applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap delivers consistent thread formation across a broad range of workpiece materials. It carries a 4-flute configuration with a plug chamfer, providing a balance between starting ease and thread engagement length. The H3 thread limit accommodates standard tolerance requirements for 2B and 3B class-of-fit applications. Overall length is 3.375 inches, with a thread length of 1.656 inches, making it suitable for general-purpose tapping in hand-tap or machine-tapping operations where coolant-through tooling is not required.
This tap is used in machining, maintenance, and fabrication environments where 1/2-13 UNC threads are required. The plug chamfer style, with 3 to 5 lead threads, is the most commonly specified chamfer for general through-hole and moderate-depth blind-hole tapping. It is well suited for use in manual tap wrenches or low-speed tapping machines in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production settings. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians working in metalworking trades are the primary users of this tooling.
Designed as a standard hand tap for creating 1/2-13 UNC internal threads; compatible with manual tap wrenches and machine tap holders accepting a 0.367-inch shank diameter with a 0.275-inch square drive.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard tap wrench or tapping attachment. Secure the workpiece fully before beginning the tapping operation, and ensure the correct tap drill size for 1/2-13 UNC has been used prior to tapping. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Do not force the tap against hard stops or use excessive torque, as HSS taps are susceptible to breakage under torsional overload.
