The TITAN USA TC61716 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. It carries a 1/4 inch (0.2500 inch) mill diameter with a 0.50 mm (0.0200 inch) corner radius and five flutes for superior chip evacuation and surface finish. The AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating provides thermal resistance and oxidation protection, making this tool well-suited for dry or high-speed cutting where heat buildup is a concern. At 2 inches overall length with a 1/2 inch length of cut, the TC61716 fits standard toolholders with a straight-cylindrical 1/4 inch shank. It is a single-end, right-hand cutting tool with a high-helix spiral flute geometry engineered for both roughing and finishing passes.
The TC61716 targets applications in superalloys, titanium alloys, Inconel, stainless steel, alloy steel, and cast iron — materials that demand coated carbide tooling to manage heat and tool wear. The stub-length configuration keeps overhang short for rigidity, which is critical when cutting hardened ferrous metals and high-temperature alloys on CNC mills, machining centers, or manual knee mills. The normal pitch flute spacing combined with the high helix angle promotes smooth cutting action and reduces chatter in these difficult materials. Machinists working aerospace, medical, or precision fabrication applications will find this tool a practical fit for finish contouring and light roughing on heat-resistant alloys.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer include superalloys, titanium, stainless steel, cast iron, alloy steel, and high-temperature alloys such as Inconel.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using a compatible toolholder and collet or end mill holder. Ensure the shank is clean and fully seated before tightening to toolholder manufacturer torque specifications. Verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits before cutting high-temperature alloys, as excessive runout accelerates corner radius wear and can cause premature tool failure. Follow your machine tool builder guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when changing tooling.
