The TITAN USA CD50251 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge 55, equivalent to 0.0670 inches (1.70 mm) in diameter. It is ground to a 135-degree split-point angle for self-centering starts without a center punch. The oxide and gold coating reduces friction and extends tool life in hard-material applications. With a 2-inch overall length and a 1-inch spiral flute, this bit is built for short, precise drilling tasks. It runs right-hand cutting with a regular spiral and a straight-cylindrical shank. Machinists, maintenance mechanics, and fabricators use this bit in production and repair work where tight tolerances and hard materials are the norm.
The CD50251 is designed primarily for drilling stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — materials that generate high heat and work-harden quickly. The cobalt construction handles elevated temperatures that would degrade standard high-speed steel bits. The 135-degree split point reduces thrust force and walking on smooth or hardened surfaces. Maximum drilling depth is 1 inch, making this well suited for thin stock, brackets, flanges, and structural components common in mechanical and industrial maintenance settings. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks without adapters.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for wire gauge 55 jobber drill bits in the CD50 series. The straight-cylindrical shank is compatible with any standard drill chuck sized to accept a 0.0670-inch shank. Intended for use in drill presses, CNC machines, and hand-held electric drills where cobalt tooling is specified for hard-material applications.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling, particularly in CNC or drill-press setups where bit deflection will affect hole tolerance. When drilling stainless steel or titanium, use a cutting fluid rated for hard metals to manage heat buildup and protect the cutting edge. Reduce feed pressure compared to carbon steel drilling to avoid work-hardening the entry surface. Inspect the split point for chipping after use on abrasive or hardened stock, and redress or replace when point geometry degrades.
