The TITAN USA CD44520 is a 5/16-inch jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose production drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and industrial trade work. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a black oxide finish, this bit runs a 135-degree split-point geometry that self-centers on contact and reduces walking without a center punch. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 5/16 inch in diameter and seats securely in standard three-jaw chucks. Overall length is 4.5 inches, with a 2-flute regular spiral flute configuration running 3.1875 inches for efficient chip evacuation. It is installed by machinists, pipefitters, electricians, HVAC techs, and maintenance mechanics working with ferrous and non-ferrous stock.
The CD44520 is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. It fits handheld drills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. The 10xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides reach typical of jobber-length applications, making this bit a standard go-to for through-hole work in sheet metal, structural steel, and general fabrication. No coolant-through feature is present; conventional flood or mist cooling at the cutting face is the standard approach for extended run times in hard materials.
Designed as a standard jobber-length replacement drill bit for use in any drill press, handheld power drill, or machining center equipped with a chuck accepting a 5/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metal, superalloys, and titanium per Series CD44 specifications.
Secure the shank fully into the chuck jaws before tightening to prevent slippage during cutting. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured firmly before beginning the cut. Apply cutting fluid or mist cooling when drilling hard alloys or stainless steel to extend edge life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the split point is damaged.
