The THOMAS BETTS SSF-BH1/2S is a hammer-on flange clip with an integrated 1/4-20 threaded stud, designed to attach threaded rod to structural steel flanges without the need for drilling or welding. Constructed from spring steel with an anodized finish, it accepts flange thicknesses from 5/16 inch to 1/2 inch and carries a load capacity of 100 pounds. Electricians, mechanical contractors, and pipe hangers use this clip to hang conduit, pipe, and duct supports from beam flanges in commercial and industrial construction.
This clip is suited for overhead support applications where a fast, tool-light attachment to a steel beam flange is required. The hammer-on design allows the installer to position the clip by hand and seat it with a single strike, saving time on repetitive hanger installations. It is commonly used in new commercial construction and retrofit projects where access for drilling is limited or where preserving structural steel integrity is a priority.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard beam-flange hanger clip for use with 1/4-20 threaded rod systems on structural steel flanges in commercial and industrial mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations. Also referenced as Raco and Minerallac part number BU-5-8-S and Gedney part number M-5-8-S.
Installation is performed by qualified electricians or mechanical contractors in accordance with applicable NEC and local building code requirements. Before installing or adjusting any overhead support, ensure power is de-energized to nearby electrical systems and confirm structural adequacy of the supporting beam. Position the clip on the flange and seat firmly with a hammer blow before attaching threaded rod and supported load. Do not exceed the rated 100 pound load capacity.
