The THOMAS BETTS 681 is a threaded conduit coupling designed for use with rigid metal conduit (RMC) and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) installations. Constructed from malleable iron, this non-insulated coupling provides a concrete-tight connection rated for demanding environments. It carries a 2-1/2 inch trade size and uses standard threaded engagement on both ends to join conduit sections end to end. Licensed electricians and journeymen install this type of fitting as a standard component in commercial and industrial conduit runs where mechanical protection and concrete-tight integrity are required.
This coupling is suited for use in concrete-encased conduit systems, exposed industrial raceways, and commercial electrical installations where rigid or IMC conduit is specified. The malleable iron construction handles the mechanical stress common in embedded or surface-mounted runs. It is a non-insulated, full-thread coupling, making it appropriate for grounded metallic conduit systems where continuity is maintained through the conduit itself.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded coupling for 2-1/2 inch trade size rigid metal conduit and intermediate metal conduit installations.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). De-energize all circuits in the conduit run before making connections. Thread the coupling fully onto each conduit end using a pipe wrench to ensure a secure, concrete-tight engagement. Inspect threads on both the conduit and coupling for damage before assembly to maintain fitting integrity.
