The THOMAS BETTS 56111 is a round, single-gang steel ceiling box designed for electrical fixture and device mounting in residential and light commercial applications. Measuring 4 inches in diameter and 0.5 inches deep, this shallow-profile box is intended for ceiling-mount installations where depth clearance is limited. The galvanized steel body provides corrosion resistance in standard indoor environments. Four half-inch knockouts allow for flexible conduit or cable entry routing. The box is UL-listed under File E2969 and mounts via screw fastening to ceiling joists or structural members. Licensed electricians and journeymen installers use this box as a standard rough-in component for light fixtures and ceiling-mounted devices.
The 56111 is suited for non-weather-resistant, indoor ceiling applications in new construction and retrofit work. Its round profile and single-gang configuration make it a common choice for ceiling light fixture rough-ins, smoke detector bases, and similar low-profile ceiling device installations. The compact 0.5-inch depth is appropriate for installations with minimal cavity space, such as shallow ceiling assemblies or finished ceiling retrofits. This box is not rated for exterior or wet-location use.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard rough-in ceiling box compatible with single-gang round ceiling fixture applications requiring a 4-inch round box with half-inch knockout entries in non-weather-resistant indoor environments.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and applicable local codes. De-energize the circuit at the breaker panel and verify absence of voltage before beginning any wiring work. Ensure the box is secured to adequate structural backing to support the weight of the intended fixture. Do not use this box in wet, damp, or outdoor locations, as it is not rated for weather-resistant applications.
