The THOMAS BETTS 54809 is a non-insulated, crimp-on butt splice terminal designed to join two wire ends in a single inline connection. Constructed from copper with a TiN (titanium nitride) contact plating, the 54809 measures 2 inches in overall length and 0.54 inches in overall diameter. This terminal accepts two wire entries and is terminated using standard hand or ratchet crimping tools. It meets CSA, UL, and RoHS requirements, making it suitable for professional electrical installations where compliance documentation is required. Electricians and electrical contractors are the primary installers of this component.
The 54809 is suited for residential, commercial, and light industrial wiring applications where an uninsulated inline splice is acceptable and a separate heat-shrink or insulating sleeve will be applied over the connection. It is commonly used in panel wiring, control panels, equipment harnesses, and conduit-fed branch circuit work where wire-to-wire splices are needed mid-run or at termination points.
Designed as an OEM-style non-insulated crimp butt splice terminal for use in general electrical wiring applications where a crimp-on inline wire connection is required.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements. De-energize and lock out the circuit before making any splice connections. Use a properly rated ratchet or hand crimp tool sized for the wire gauge being terminated to ensure a secure, gas-tight crimp. Because this terminal is non-insulated, apply an appropriate insulating sleeve or heat-shrink tubing over the finished splice before re-energizing the circuit.
