The THOMAS BETTS 5220 is a compression-style coupling for 3/4 inch trade size EMT conduit. It creates a secure, concrete-tight and water-resistant connection between two lengths of EMT without insulation at the joint. The steel construction provides mechanical strength suitable for commercial and residential electrical installations. Electricians use this fitting where code requires a dependable conduit connection in damp, wet, or embedded concrete applications. The compression design does not require set screws, reducing installation time and maintaining consistent contact along the conduit surface.
The 5220 is suited for 3/4 inch EMT runs in both new construction and retrofit electrical work. Typical applications include conduit systems installed in concrete slabs, masonry walls, or exposed locations subject to moisture. It is commonly installed in commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and residential service work where EMT is the conduit of choice for branch circuit and feeder wiring.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard compression coupling for 3/4 inch trade size EMT conduit systems.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements for conduit fittings. De-energize all circuits in the affected conduit run before beginning work. The compression nut should be tightened by hand and then snugged with pliers or a strap wrench to achieve a concrete-tight seal — do not over-torque. Verify the conduit ends are cut clean and free of burrs before inserting into the coupling.
