The THOMAS BETTS 3H is a hex split bolt connector designed for joining copper conductors in electrical wiring applications. Constructed from copper alloy, this split bolt provides a secure, pressure-based mechanical connection between two conductors without the need for soldering. It accepts copper wire in the 8 to 3 AWG range, making it suitable for branch circuit splices, tap connections, and service entrance work. Electricians install this connector directly on the conductors, tightening the hex bolt to clamp the pressure bar firmly against both wires. The copper alloy construction resists corrosion and maintains conductivity over the life of the connection.
The THOMAS BETTS 3H is used in residential and commercial electrical installations where copper-to-copper conductor splices or taps are required. Common applications include panel feeders, junction box splices, and service conductor taps. It is suited for indoor and outdoor work when properly taped or wrapped per code. The 8 to 3 AWG range covers a wide spread of typical branch and feeder conductor sizes encountered in standard electrical work.

Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). De-energize the circuit and verify absence of voltage before making any connections. Strip conductors to the appropriate length, seat both wires against the pressure bar, and tighten the hex bolt firmly using an appropriate wrench. After tightening, insulate the completed connection with self-fusing or vinyl electrical tape per applicable code requirements.
