The THOMAS BETTS 31013 is a non-insulated square ring terminal designed for high-current electrical connections using a compression connection method. Rated for 4/0 AWG wire, this terminal features a copper contact that provides reliable conductivity in demanding installations. At 2.75 inches long and 1.1875 inches wide, with a thickness of 0.3125 inches, it is built for robust service in panel wiring, switchgear, grounding applications, and heavy-gauge feeder terminations. Licensed electricians and industrial electricians are the typical installers. Its square ring profile accepts a 0.5-inch stud, making it well suited for bus bar and lug-style terminations.
This terminal is used in commercial and industrial electrical installations where 4/0 AWG conductors require a secure, permanent mechanical and electrical connection. Typical applications include main service entrance panels, grounding electrode conductors, battery bank wiring, and heavy feeder runs. The compression connection style requires a proper hex or indent crimping tool sized for 4/0 AWG to achieve a gas-tight, low-resistance joint. No insulation sleeve is included, which is standard practice in many switchgear and bus bar environments where conductors are individually managed.
Designed as a compression-style ring terminal for 4/0 AWG conductors requiring a 0.5-inch stud size in non-insulated termination applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). Always de-energize the circuit and verify absence of voltage with a meter before terminating conductors. Use a calibrated compression crimping tool rated for 4/0 AWG to achieve proper crimp depth and contact integrity. Do not attempt to install with a standard plier-style tool, as an undersized crimp can result in a high-resistance joint or mechanical failure under load.
