The THOMAS BETTS 229-TB is a plastic insulated conduit bushing designed to protect wire insulation at the end of rigid metal conduit (RMC) and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) terminations. Sized for 3-inch trade size conduit, this bushing threads onto the conduit end before conductors are pulled, providing a smooth, non-abrasive transition point that prevents insulation damage from sharp metal edges. Its insulated design is suited for non-hazardous locations in commercial and industrial electrical installations. Licensed electricians install this fitting as a standard practice when terminating conduit at enclosures, panels, and junction boxes.
This bushing is intended for use with 3-inch trade size rigid metal conduit and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) in non-hazardous area applications. The threaded connection secures the bushing directly to the conduit end, making it compatible with standard threaded RMC and IMC fittings. Typical installation scenarios include service entrance conduit terminations, feeder conduit runs entering switchgear, and any threaded conduit endpoint where conductor protection is required by the NEC.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement fitting for 3-inch trade size rigid metal conduit and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) threaded terminations in non-hazardous locations.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 300 and applicable local codes. De-energize all circuits and lock out the panel before working at conduit termination points. Thread the bushing fully onto the conduit end before pulling conductors through to avoid insulation abrasion. Do not use this bushing in hazardous classified locations.
