The TESA BROWN SHARPE 599-7031-14 is a horizontal-style dial test indicator from the BesTest series, designed for precise surface and runout measurement in machining, inspection, and quality-control applications. It delivers a maximum measurement range of 0.8 mm with a dial graduation and accuracy of 0.01 mm, making it suitable for tolerance checks that demand reliable, repeatable readings. The white 38 mm dial reads 0-0.4-0, and the lever-type contact arm transfers movement to an analogue display. The integrated shockproof system protects the movement during normal shop handling. Metrology technicians, machinists, and quality inspectors are the primary users of this instrument.
This indicator is used in precision measurement setups on surface plates, CMM fixtures, machine tool spindles, and inspection jigs in both production and toolroom environments. The horizontal style positions the dial face parallel to the measuring axis, making it well suited for bore gauging, concentricity checks, and part-alignment tasks where the indicator stem must remain close to the workpiece surface. The rotating dial allows zeroing at any position within the range without moving the contact point. Included inserts cover three ball sizes, extending versatility across different groove widths and surface geometries.
Designed for use with standard dovetail-mount indicator holders and articulating arms that accept the BesTest horizontal dial test indicator form factor. Confirm holder compatibility with the 12.70 mm contact point length and included mounting rod before installation.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified metrology technician or machinist familiar with precision measuring instruments. Mount the indicator securely in a compatible holder before applying any measuring force to the contact point. Never exceed the rated measurement range, as overtravel can damage the internal lever mechanism. Store the instrument in its provided plastic case when not in use to protect the movement and contact points.
