The TESA BROWN SHARPE 599-7023-6 is a horizontal-style dial test indicator designed for precision dimensional measurement in machining, inspection, and quality-control applications. Part of the BesTest series, it delivers a measurement range of 0.008 inches per revolution with a dial graduation and accuracy of 0.0001 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance work. The indicator features an integrated shockproof system and low measuring force to protect the mechanism during setup and repeated use. It ships with a mounting rod, wrench, three contact point inserts, a plastic case, and both a Declaration of Conformity Certificate and Measurement Report. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and quality inspectors are the primary users.
This indicator is suited for horizontal mounting configurations on surface plates, magnetic bases, or machine tool spindles in both production and inspection environments. The 0-5-0 bidirectional dial reading allows the technician to detect deviation in either direction from a set zero point without repositioning the indicator. The rotating bezel enables quick zeroing. Three ball-tipped contact point inserts are included at 0.04 inches, 0.08 inches, and 0.12 inches to accommodate different workpiece geometries. Typical applications include runout checks, surface parallelism, and part-to-part comparison measurements on milling machines, lathes, and surface plates.
Designed as an OEM-style precision indicator compatible with standard dovetail-mount indicator holders, magnetic bases, and mounting rods common to surface plate and machine tool inspection setups.
Installation is typically performed by machinists or metrology technicians using a compatible dovetail or rod-mount holder. Secure the mounting rod firmly before applying measuring force to avoid false readings. Ensure the contact point is aligned with the measurement axis to minimize cosine error. The workpiece and machine should be stationary and at a stable temperature before taking reference measurements.
