The TESA BROWN SHARPE 14.82017 is an analog dial drop indicator designed for precise linear measurement in machining, inspection, and quality control applications. It features a 1 inch total measurement range with a fine graduation of 0.0005 inches per division, allowing technicians to detect subtle surface variation, runout, or part deflection. The 2-1/4 inch black dial face carries a 0-50 reading scale, and the indicator advances 0.05 inches per spindle revolution. A built-in revolution counter tracks cumulative travel across the full range. This instrument is installed and used by machinists, metrologists, and precision tooling technicians working with surface plates, magnetic bases, or inspection fixtures.
This dial drop indicator is suited for use in machine shops, tool and die operations, and dimensional inspection stations. The vertical lug back mount allows secure attachment to standard indicator holders, articulating arms, and surface gauge stands. Typical applications include checking shaft runout, verifying flatness, setting up workpieces on milling machines or lathes, and performing go/no-go measurements during in-process inspection. It is calibrated in English units and is appropriate for precision work requiring resolution at the half-thousandth level.
Designed for use with standard AGD Group 2 indicator holders, magnetic base arms, and surface gauge stands that accept a vertical lug back mount. The manufacturer also lists this part under cross-reference number MB217.
Installation is performed by machinists or metrology technicians using a compatible lug back clamp or dovetail holder. Ensure the indicator spindle is oriented perpendicular to the measurement surface to avoid cosine error. Secure the mounting fixture firmly before zeroing the dial to prevent false readings from vibration or fixture movement. No electrical power or special tools are required for mounting or operation.
