The TECHNIKS 05616 is an ER32 tap collet designed to hold M16 hand taps in ER32-compatible toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual tapping setups. With a collet size of 12.5 mm and a square drive size of 10 mm, this collet provides a secure, repeatable grip on the tap shank during threading operations. It does not include through-coolant capability or tension-compression functionality, making it a straightforward rigid tapping solution. Machinists and toolroom technicians rely on ER-series tap collets for accurate tap alignment and reduced tap breakage in production environments.
This collet is suited for hand tap applications in both job shop and production floor settings where M16 taps are driven through ER32 toolholding systems. Typical installations include vertical machining centers, knee mills, and drill press setups equipped with ER32 chucks or tapping heads. The 12.5 mm bore matches the shank diameter of standard M16 hand taps, and the 10 mm square recess positively engages the tap drive square to prevent slippage during the cutting cycle.
Designed for use with ER32-compatible toolholders and tapping chucks that accept standard ER32 collets for M16 hand tap applications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing collets. Seat the collet fully into the ER32 nut before engaging the toolholder body, and torque the collet nut using a proper ER spanner wrench to manufacturer specifications for the toolholder. Inspect the tap shank and square drive for burrs or wear before seating to ensure accurate alignment.
