The TECHNIKS 05570-437 is an ER32 tap collet sized at 0.437 inches, designed to hold 1/8 NPT pipe taps in ER32 collet chucks on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines. The collet features a square drive pocket with a 0.328-inch square size that positively engages the tap shank, preventing rotation under torque. This is a rigid-style collet without tension-compression float, making it suitable for rigid tapping cycles where the machine controls depth and feed rate precisely. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary installers of this collet in production and job-shop environments.
This collet is used in applications requiring NPT pipe thread tapping, where a secure, non-slip grip on the tap shank is critical for thread accuracy and tool life. It fits standard ER32 collet chucks and is appropriate for both CNC and manual machine tool setups running pipe tapping operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. No through-coolant path is present in this collet, so flood or mist cooling at the tool periphery is the appropriate cooling method for this application.
Designed for use in standard ER32 collet chucks. Sized specifically for 1/8 NPT pipe tap shanks with a 0.437-inch decimal diameter and a 0.328-inch square drive.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before inserting the collet into the chuck body, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down or placed in a locked-out state per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the collet fully into the ER32 chuck nut before threading the nut onto the chuck body, and torque the nut with the appropriate ER collet wrench to the chuck manufacturer's specification. Inspect the collet bore and the tap shank for chips or contamination before clamping, as debris can cause runout and premature tap breakage.
