Product Description

The TB WOODS TB-5J1 is a finished bore sleeve coupling flange designed for close-coupled shaft connections in rotating equipment applications. It mounts directly to a keyed round bore shaft with tight bore tolerances and mates with a matched sleeve insert to form a complete flexible coupling assembly. The flange hub is machined from carbon steel and rated to 7,600 RPM maximum speed. The bore measures 1 inch in diameter with a bore tolerance of +0.0005 to +0.0015 inches and a 1/4-inch keyway width. A 4-way flexing action absorbs shock, angular and parallel misalignment, end float, and vibration — making this flange well suited for demanding drive train environments.

The TB-5J1 is intended for use with motors, compressors, conveyors, and pumps where a keyed shaft coupling is required. It carries a coupling size designation of 5 and features an outside diameter of 3-1/4 inches and a hub diameter of 1-7/8 inches. The flange is designed to handle both angular and parallel misalignment conditions. Two set screws are included — one positioned over the keyseat and one at 90 degrees — providing secure shaft retention. This flange is part of an inch-measurement sleeve coupling system and is supplied as a single flange component, requiring a matching sleeve insert and opposing flange to complete the coupling assembly.

Key Features

  • Finished bore accepts 1-inch keyed round bore shafts with tight tolerances
  • Carbon steel hub construction rated to 7,600 RPM
  • 4-way flexing action accommodates angular and parallel misalignment, end float, and vibration
  • Outside diameter of 3-1/4 inches with hub diameter of 1-7/8 inches
  • Includes two set screws — one over keyseat, one at 90 degrees — with 5/16-18 thread size
  • Chemical resistant and oil resistant properties
  • Made in the USA (subject to change)

Compatibility

Designed for use with TB WOODS size 5 sleeve coupling assemblies on keyed inch-bore shafts in motors, compressors, conveyors, and pump drive applications. A matching sleeve insert and second flange are required to complete the coupling.

Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a qualified mechanic or millwright with the driven equipment fully de-energized and locked out per applicable LOTO procedures. The bore and mating shaft should be clean and free of burrs before assembly. Set screws should be tightened to the coupling manufacturer's published specifications using the appropriate hex key. Do not force the flange onto an oversized shaft, as this can damage bore tolerances and reduce coupling performance.
