The SUMITOMO U101352 is a carbide replaceable tip drill engineered for high-performance hole-making in steel and ferrous workpiece materials. Part of the SMD Series, this drill accepts a solid carbide MTL-geometry tip with a TiAlCr and TiSi PVD coating designed to extend tool life under demanding cutting conditions. The 140-degree included point angle promotes aggressive penetration and clean entry geometry. At 45/64 inches in diameter, it is well suited for precision boring applications where dimensional accuracy and surface finish consistency are critical. Machinists and tooling technicians working with CNC machining centers will find the replaceable tip design reduces changeover time and overall tooling cost.
This drill is intended for use in steel and P-code primary workpiece materials, making it a fit for production and job-shop environments running ferrous components. The through-coolant design channels cutting fluid directly to the tip, supporting heat dissipation and chip evacuation in deep-hole drilling operations. It is suited to horizontal and vertical machining centers equipped with coolant-through spindle capability. The SMD Series platform is designed around interchangeable carbide tips, allowing the steel body to be reused across multiple tip changes.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip drill within the SUMITOMO SMD Series platform, compatible with SMD Series drill bodies accepting MTL-geometry carbide tips at 45/64 inches diameter.
Installation and tip changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out. Ensure the drill body seat and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the carbide tip. Through-coolant pressure and flow rate should be verified against machine specifications before running at full cutting parameters. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for any retention screws or clamping elements.
