The SUMITOMO U101337 is a carbide replaceable tip drill designed for high-performance metal cutting applications in production machining environments. Built to SMD series specifications, this drill features a 37/64 inch diameter cutting tip with a 140-degree included point angle. The tip is manufactured from solid carbide and coated with a TiAlCr and TiSi finish applied via PVD process, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during aggressive cutting cycles. Through-coolant capability channels fluid directly to the cutting zone, extending tool life and improving chip evacuation. This tool is installed and used by machinists, tool and die technicians, and production floor operators.
The U101337 is suited for drilling steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material group P. The replaceable tip design of the SMD series allows worn or damaged tips to be swapped without replacing the full drill body, reducing tooling cost per hole in high-volume applications. Typical use cases include production drilling on CNC machining centers where consistent hole geometry and tool life predictability are required. The MTL insert geometry is optimized for steel cutting performance at the ACX70 manufacturer grade level.
Designed as a replaceable tip drill insert for use within the SUMITOMO SMD series drill body platform. Compatible with steel workpiece materials classified under ISO material group P. Verify SMD series body diameter and tip seating compatibility before installation.
Installation of replaceable tip drills should be performed by qualified machinists following the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines. Ensure the drill body bore and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the tip. Confirm through-coolant passages are clear and that coolant supply pressure and flow rate are appropriate for the drill diameter before running the tool. Follow all machine lockout and tooling torque procedures per the machining center manufacturer specifications.
