The SUMITOMO U101335 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the SMD Series, designed for high-performance hole-making in steel and similar ferrous workpiece materials. The drill features a 140-degree included point angle and an ACX70 manufacturer grade carbide tip with a PVD-applied TiAlCr/TiSi coating for extended tool life under demanding cutting conditions. At 9/16 inches in diameter, it is sized for precision drilling applications where consistent hole quality and tool rigidity are required. Through-coolant capability is built in, supporting high-speed operations and effective chip evacuation. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in metalworking and machining environments are the primary installers and users of this tool.
The U101335 is suited for CNC machining centers and drilling operations targeting steel workpieces, classified under primary workpiece material code P. The replaceable tip design allows the carbide insert to be swapped without replacing the full drill body, reducing tooling cost and downtime in production environments. The MTL insert geometry is optimized for cutting performance in the P-grade material category. This drill is appropriate for both job shop and production machining applications where steel is the dominant material being cut.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip for use within the SUMITOMO SMD Series drill body system. Specific body compatibility should be confirmed against SUMITOMO SMD Series toolholder documentation prior to ordering.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists following the machine tool manufacturer's spindle and toolholder procedures. Ensure the machine is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the replaceable tip. Verify that the tip is fully seated and secured per the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications before resuming operation. Confirm through-coolant line integrity before running at elevated spindle speeds.
