The SUMITOMO U101193 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting applications. It measures 33/64 inches (0.5156 inches) in diameter with a 135-degree drill point angle, providing a self-centering entry that reduces walking on hard materials. The overall length is 5.3937 inches, with a flute length of 3.0709 inches and a straight-cylindrical shank. A dual-layer TiAlCr and TiSi coating delivers heat resistance and extended tool life under demanding cutting conditions. This bit is suited for production and maintenance machining environments where tool longevity and hole accuracy are critical.
This drill bit is engineered for cutting cast iron and steel, covering the most common ferrous workpiece materials in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and industrial maintenance operations. The MDW-GS series design follows a 4xD flute-by-diameter ratio, balancing chip evacuation with rigidity. It is installed in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills by machinists and tooling technicians working in metal cutting environments. No coolant-through capability is present, so external flood or mist coolant is the standard approach for thermal management.
Designed for use in metal cutting applications on cast iron and steel workpieces, within the MDW-GS series drill bit family. Fits standard toolholders and chucks accepting a 0.5156-inch straight-cylindrical shank within the 0.5000 to 0.6500 inch diameter range for this series.
Installation is performed by machinists and tooling technicians in machine shop or industrial maintenance settings. Secure the shank fully within a compatible collet, drill chuck, or hydraulic holder before operation, and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Solid carbide tooling is brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid interrupted cuts or side loading beyond the tool's rated application. Always follow the machine tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for carbide drills in the target workpiece material.
