The SUMITOMO U101185 is a solid carbide mechanics-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Finished with a TiAlCr/TiSi coating, this bit resists heat and wear during extended cutting cycles. It features a 135-degree drill point angle and a tapered web configuration that promotes self-centering and reduces thrust when starting holes. With a 0.5 inch cutting diameter and an overall length of 5.3937 inches, the U101185 is built for precision-critical through-hole and blind-hole work in production and MRO environments. Licensed machinists and toolroom techs are the primary installers of this bit.
This drill bit is rated for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and general steel workpieces, covering ISO material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The mechanics-length body keeps the bit rigid and reduces deflection in applications where hole straightness and positional accuracy are required. It is a single-piece unit suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual drilling operations where a 0.5156 inch shank diameter is compatible with the spindle or chuck.
Rated for primary workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel (ISO material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S). Part of the MDW-GS4 series.
Installation and use of carbide drill bits should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with speeds, feeds, and runout tolerances for solid carbide tooling. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before installing or removing the bit. Solid carbide is brittle and susceptible to chipping from shock loads or excessive runout — verify chuck or collet concentricity before operation. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply external coolant or cutting fluid as appropriate for the workpiece material.
