The SUMITOMO U101167 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision metal cutting in demanding production environments. It carries a dual TiAlCr and TiSi coating that improves wear resistance and heat dissipation during high-speed drilling. The bit features a 135-degree split-point geometry that reduces thrust, centers on contact, and minimizes walking on flat surfaces. With an overall length of 4.4882 inches and a 27/64-inch (0.4219 inch) cutting diameter, this is a tool sized for through-hole and deep-feature work in ferrous and cast materials. Installation and use are handled by machinists and toolroom technicians in CNC and manual drilling operations.
This drill bit is engineered for cutting cast iron and steel, including general-purpose P-grade and K-grade workpiece materials per ISO material classification. The MDW-GS series is built for 4xD depth-to-diameter ratio applications, making it well suited for production drilling where consistent hole quality and tool life are critical. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 7/16-inch (0.4375 inch) diameter seats directly in standard drill chucks and collet holders without additional adapters. No coolant-through capability is present, so external flood or mist coolant should be applied at the cutting zone during use.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes where a straight-cylindrical shank drill in the 0.4000 to 0.5000 inch diameter range is required. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron (ISO K) and steel (ISO P).
This bit is installed by machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully and evenly in the chuck or collet holder and verify runout with an indicator before beginning production drilling. Because this bit has no internal coolant channel, direct external coolant flow to the cutting zone to prevent heat buildup and premature coating wear.
