The SUMITOMO U101158 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for precision metal cutting in demanding production environments. It measures 10.26 mm (0.4040 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 4.4882 inches and a flute length of 2.5984 inches. The bit features a 135-degree drill point angle, which reduces thrust and centers the tool more effectively on entry. A dual-layer TiAlCr and TiSi coating provides heat resistance and extended tool life when drilling ferrous materials. This bit is sized in the 10.00 to 12.50 mm range class and is intended for use by machinists and tooling technicians on CNC and manual machine setups.
The U101158 is engineered for cutting cast iron and steel workpieces, covering primary material codes K and P. Its 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it well suited for moderate-depth holes in these materials without chip packing. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 7/16 inch (0.4375 inches) in diameter with a shank length of 1.8110 inches, fitting standard drill chucks and collet holders used in production machining. It is compatible with dry or mist cutting environments, as coolant-through is not supported on this series. The MDW-GS series designation identifies it within the SUMITOMO ground solid carbide drill line.
Designed for use in metal cutting applications on cast iron and steel workpieces. Compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 0.4375-inch straight-cylindrical shank. No coolant-through capability; suitable for dry or external mist coolant setups.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling procedures. Secure the shank fully in a properly sized chuck or collet before operation to prevent runout. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used in applications with interrupted cuts or excessive vibration without confirming suitability. Inspect the cutting edge for chipping before each use and replace if damage is present.
