The SUMITOMO U101128 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and cast iron materials. Built from solid carbide with a coated finish, this bit delivers rigidity and wear resistance in demanding production environments. It features a 135-degree split point for reduced walking and faster penetration, a tapered web configuration for chip evacuation, and a straight-cylindrical shank for straightforward chuck mounting. The 11/32-inch (0.3438-inch) diameter and compact screw machine length make it well suited for short-reach, high-accuracy drilling on CNC machining centers and drill presses.
This drill bit is intended for use in metal fabrication, machining, and production drilling applications. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron and steel. The screw machine length format keeps the bit stiff and accurate in applications where shorter flute engagement and reduced deflection are priorities. It is typically installed by machinists and tool-room technicians in shop environments running automated or semi-automated drilling cycles. The MDW-GS series is built for consistent performance at volume in industrial production settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and production cutting tool for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and automated drilling equipment capable of accepting a straight-cylindrical shank drill bit in the 0.3000-inch to 0.3500-inch diameter range.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable machine safety procedures. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck or collet to the recommended grip depth before tightening. Do not exceed the workpiece material ratings for this bit, as solid carbide is brittle and susceptible to breakage under lateral loading or interrupted cuts if not properly supported.
