The SUMITOMO U101124 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard-to-machine materials. It carries a Letter Q designation, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.3320 inches, with a 135-degree web-thinned point that reduces thrust and improves chip control at entry. The tool is manufactured from solid carbide and features a DEX multi-layer coating for extended tool life in demanding applications. With a total overall length of 3.9370 inches and a straight cylindrical shank, it fits standard toolholders used in CNC machining centers and screw machine setups. Installation and setup are handled by machinists and tooling technicians.
This drill bit is suited for production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. The screw machine length format offers a rigid, short-body profile that reduces deflection in tight-clearance fixtures or multi-spindle machines. The coolant-through design channels cutting fluid directly to the cutting edge, supporting higher feed rates and longer tool life in deep-hole operations. It is appropriate for automated production environments where repeatable hole quality and tool longevity are priorities. The MDW-HGS series is engineered for high-speed steel and alloy workpieces where standard HSS tooling falls short.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, screw machines, and drill presses equipped with straight-shank toolholders accepting a 0.3594-inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys.
This drill bit should be installed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Confirm the toolholder bore matches the 0.3594-inch shank diameter and that runout is within acceptable tolerance before running at full feed and speed. Coolant-through setups require the machine spindle to support internal coolant delivery for full benefit of the through-coolant feature.
