The SUMITOMO U101111 is a solid carbide mechanics-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from solid carbide with a TiAlCr/TiSi coating, it delivers extended tool life and heat resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 135-degree drill point angle promotes accurate starts and reduces walking on hard materials. At 3.5433 inches overall length with a 1.8898-inch flute length and a 5/16-inch (0.3125 inch) diameter, this bit fits standard drill chucks and CNC machining centers. It is installed and operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production or maintenance environments.
This drill bit is rated for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon and alloy steels. The mechanics-length body provides a compact profile suited for drilling in tight clearances or fixture setups where a jobber-length bit would be impractical. The tapered web configuration improves chip evacuation and reduces thrust load during cutting. It is well suited for production drilling, repair machining, and precision hole-making on manual mills, drill presses, and CNC equipment.
Designed for use in cast iron (ISO material codes H, K), non-ferrous metals (N), stainless steel (M), and carbon and alloy steels (P, S). Part of the MDW-GS4 series of solid carbide mechanics drill bits.
This drill bit should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a collet or drill chuck rated for the 5/16-inch shank diameter before operation. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used in applications with interrupted cuts or excessive vibration without confirming suitability. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use external flood or mist coolant where heat is a concern.
