The SUMITOMO U101107 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit engineered for high-performance metal cutting applications. It measures 7.67 mm (0.3020 inches) in diameter with a 135-degree split point angle that reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust force. The bit carries a dual TiAlCr and TiSi coating that extends tool life when cutting abrasive and hard ferrous materials. Overall length is 3.5433 inches with a 5/16-inch (0.3125-inch) straight-cylindrical shank. With two flutes and a 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio, this bit is suited for machinists and metalworking professionals running CNC or manual drilling operations.
This drill bit is designed for cutting cast iron and steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes K and P. The tapered web configuration supports chip evacuation in deeper holes. Typical applications include production drilling in machining centers, CNC drill presses, and manual machine tools where dimensional accuracy and tool life are priorities. The h8 diameter tolerance on the 7.67 mm cutting edge ensures consistent hole sizing across production runs. Coolant-through capability is not supported; external flood or mist coolant is appropriate for extended runs in ferrous materials.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machine tools capable of accepting a straight-cylindrical 5/16-inch shank. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel (ISO material codes K and P). The MDW-GS series covers drill bit sizes in the 7.00 mm to 8.00 mm (0.3000 to 0.3500 inch) range.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the collet or drill chuck and tighten to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping torque. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production use, as excessive runout accelerates carbide tip wear and reduces hole accuracy.
