The SUMITOMO U101094 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. Built from solid carbide with a coated finish, it delivers the rigidity and edge retention needed when machining cast iron and steel. The bit measures 0.281 inches (9/32 inch) in diameter with a 135-degree split-point angle for accurate starting and reduced thrust. Overall length is 2.874 inches with a flute length of 1.299 inches. The tapered web configuration and 2xD flute-to-diameter ratio make this bit well suited for shorter, controlled cuts in production and job-shop environments. It carries a straight-cylindrical shank and meets h8 diameter tolerance for consistent fitment in standard drill chucks and collet holders.
The U101094 is intended for use in screw machine operations and general-purpose drilling where a compact, stub-length tool is preferred over a jobber-length bit. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel. The screw machine length format reduces tool overhang, improves rigidity, and is commonly used in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and manual drill presses where shorter reach and improved hole quality are priorities. Maximum drilling depth is 0.878 inches (22.29 mm). Package quantity is one bit per unit.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement within the SUMITOMO MDW-GS series, compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 0.281-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for drilling cast iron and steel workpieces.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with rotating cutting tools. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and power is locked out before loading or removing the bit from the chuck or collet. Confirm the shank is fully seated and the chuck or collet is properly torqued before initiating a cut. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for spindle speeds and feed rates appropriate to the workpiece material.
