The SUMITOMO U101050 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and metalworking applications. Built from solid carbide, this bit features a 135-degree split point angle that reduces walking and allows for fast penetration without a center punch. It carries a wire gauge size of 7, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.2010 inches, and an overall length of 3.2283 inches. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.2344 inches in diameter, making it compatible with standard drill chucks and toolholders. Coolant-through construction supports high-speed machining cycles. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and CNC operators in production environments are the primary users of this tooling.
The U101050 is designed for drilling into cast iron, stainless steel, and steel. Its screw machine length profile — shorter than a jobber length bit — provides added rigidity and reduced deflection, which is especially valuable in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turret lathes where hole location accuracy is critical. The MDW-HGS series designation indicates a high-geometry split-point design with a tapered web configuration and two margins, optimized for chip evacuation and hole finish quality in ferrous materials.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement drill bit for machining operations involving cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Part of the SUMITOMO MDW-HGS series covering the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch drill bit diameter range.
Installation and use of solid carbide drill bits should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with cutting tool setup and machine tool operation. Ensure the spindle and toolholder are clean and free of runout before seating the shank. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing tooling. Do not exceed manufacturer-recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material, as carbide tooling is brittle and susceptible to fracture under shock loading or improper chip evacuation conditions.
